Autoimmune encephalitis is when the body’s immune system attacks healthy brain cells leading to inflammation of the brain.
After the onset of rapid brain inflammation, it can leave a debilitating neurological, psychological and physical impact.
Chinese Medicine assists by:
- Rehabilitating damaged neural connections
- Reducing inflammatory cells
- Delaying onset of paralysis
- Reducing duration of paralysis
“The numbers of inflammatory cells and CD4 T cells...., were significantly reduced (in the Acupuncture group of a study)”
- The American Journal of Chinese Medicine

Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) slowly evolves in a progressive or relapsing manner.
There can be partial or complete recovery between recurrences. And periods of improvement usually last anywhere between weeks to months.
Nerve pain is a common symptom of CIDP for which studies have shown that Acupuncture can help.
Chinese Medicine assists by:
- Reducing neuropathic pain
- Reducing contributing factors that exacerbate symptoms
- Creating physical responses in nerve cells, endocrine organs and the brain to have an effect on the immune system
“Acupuncture resulted in significant and lasting reduction of this patient's neuropathic pain”
- Medical Acupuncture Journal
Gallo, A., 2014. Neuropathic Pain Associated with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy Treated with Acupuncture. Medical Acupuncture, 26(5), pp.295-297.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease where the communication between the brain and other parts of the body is disrupted.
With a progressive, relapsing and remitting nature, Multiple Sclerosis can be hard to manage.
Its effects can range from relatively mild to disabling and devastating for some people.
Acupuncture is an effective non pharmacological approach to managing MS related symptoms and curbing disease progression.
Chinese Medicine assists by:
- Improving fatigue
- Regulating the immune system to reducing systemic inflammation
- Reducing spasticity
“It not only can improve the patient's symptoms and quality of life and slow and reverse the progression of physical disabilities but it can reduce the number of relapses and help patients stay in remission.”

The cause for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is not clearly known and there are no definitive Western Medicine treatments for it.
There are many attributing factors to CFS such as chronic illness, sleep disorders, immune dysfunction and lifestyle aspects.
In Chinese Medicine, the presenting symptoms of CFS are managed based on identifying what deficiencies exist in the body.
Chinese Medicine assists by:
- Accelerating information processing
- Enhancing cognitive ability
- Utilising energy from food
- Regulating sleep cycles
“Both Acupuncture groups showed a significantly lower score, suggesting that Acupuncture may positively influence the intensity of fatigue”

Current medical approaches to IBD focus on immune regulation. But lack attention to the multifaceted aspects of IBD that go beyond the immune system.
Chinese Medicine assists by:
- Decreasing activity and inflammation by controlling the immune response
- Modulating gut bacteria and improves the gastrointestinal barrier
- Reducing the psychological impact on the gut
